Backing up your Raspberry Pi

Backing up your Raspberry Pi

So in this quick tutorial I am going to show you how to back-up your raspberry pi in the event of a disastrous crash you can be back online in under a hour.

This tip is for Windows base user (sorry to everyone else). So let’s get cracking 🙂

Step 1:

Download and install the following software: Win32 Disk Imager

Step 2:

Log into your Raspberry Pi and shut it down.

You can use the following command in a shell

sudo shutdown now -h

Step 3:

Remove the SD card from the Raspberry Pi and insert it into the machine that is running the Win32 Disk Imager.

Step 4:

Start Win32 Disk Imager and perform the following:

1.  Input the location and name of the backup file. (Tip: Make it memorable and add a date like YYYY_MM_DD)

2. Select the drive that the SD card is using.

3. Start the read process of the SD card.

Step 5:

Wait for the process complete and once done return the SD card back to the Raspberry Pi and restart it. You now have a working backup of your Pi 🙂
